Digital Communication

  • Easier to send a text rather than ring somebody so people may communicate less with each other

  • It is more efficient to send an e-mail as you can send it to more than one person

  • You can explain something a lot easier to someone over the phone rather than by text

  • You can send documents by e-mail e.g. pictures

  • People don't always understand what you are trying to say by text, because you might say something and they might interpret it differently

ICT in Jobs

  • This is an artivle explaining how children can use a 'Talking Pen' to help them learn languages in class.
  • It explains how this device has been brought to bridge the gap in language learning, so that it is made easier for people to learn languages.
  • It goes on to say about how some universities have started to put their lesson plans and test results online so that it helps the students to get feedback and understand if and where they are going wrong.
  • This is a positive effect on society because it is helping students of all ages to learn in a different way to the usual traditional classroom manner. So finding a different technique for the way people learn is good for the society because people have a better chance of getting a highly paid job.

  • This article is about the amount of jobs that are now avialable by using IT.
  • This has a positive effect on society becauseit means where people might have lost a job by ICT being brought in, they now have a chance to get a new one because there are more available
  • A downside to this though is the fact that if you do want a job, you do have to be trained. So it might take longer for these jobs to take effect if the staff is still being trained.

  • This article is all about internet shopping.
  • In some ways it has a positive effect on society because it saves a lot of time and sometimes you can get better deals if you buy something online rather than in the high street.
  • Also if elderly people can't physically walk to the shops then online shopping would be a better option for them.
  • On the other hand it causes laziness. This is because if people can buy things online they are less likely to go out to the shop and purchase it themselves, this could technically lead to obesity rises and other health problems as people wont get the exercise of walking around.

  • This article is about telecommunicating. This means the use of mobile phones, e-mail, vidoe conversations etc.
  • This could have a positive effect on society as it means that it is a lot easier to send someone a text rather than speaking to them for longer on the phone.
  • Also by sending an e-mail it is quicker than writing a letter and posting it and spending money. So this enables people to keep in touch a lot more than they would if these things weren't available.
  • On the other hand some may see it as a negative effect in society because it stops people from hand writing and learning how to punctuate and spell better, as the computer would just do that for them.
  • Also they could be given more work if their employer sends them things to do, in theory they could spend a lot more time doing it because of the hand held internet options that they can use when they are walking down the street.

Employment opportunities

  • Companys rely more on machines
  • Less jobs are available as items are made by machines and not manually
  • BACS- means that when you are paid the money is put straight into your account instead of given to you by hand
  • Banks need less cashiers due to online banking
  • You can use cash points (ATMS) instead of using a person to give you your money.
  • Actual bank branches are closing down due to the link system which means you can get your money out from any branch
  • Secretaries were trained as typists but they don't need them to do that anymore so many have lost their jobs
  • Secretaries are now seen more as a personal assistant by sorting out e-mails and arranging meeting dates etc
  • More jobs now are being given to ICT technicians as the system is vital to the company
  • There are not as many shops on the highstreet as you can have online retailing, so you can have less people working in the shop, so it is a lot cheaper
  • Call centers have been moved to other countries because a lot of people can speak English and use computers easily, and also the labour costs are a lot cheaper in other countries
  • Advantages of using other countries are that if it is our night time, and their daytime they can work through the day and and then send information throught to us ready for the nect day
  • Some disadvantages of call centers in other countries are that there can be language barriers, and people can't always understand what you need
  • We need manufacturers to design new gadgets and computers
  • Gaming can make more money than a Hollywood film
  • People are more reliant on technology as part of their everyday lives e.g. mobiles, sat navs, mp3 players etc.
  • Without ICT we wouldn'y have all of these things, which is good in some ways but bad in others

Scare ware

  • Scareware is pop-ups that appear on your screen that tell you that your computer has a problem, so when you click on it, it takes you to websites that make you buy the software
